Internet is full of discussions which preposition of place – in or at – should be used while talking in reference to a hotel. I will not go into the details of different opinions on this matter, but there is one hotel in London in which I would not mind staying in for the entire stay – renovated Hotel Café Royal on Regent street. I had the absolute delight of getting to know it in April 2014.
This hotel just has it all; impeccable attention to every detail and service, excellent cuisine and a good choice of restaurants, clever design, not to mention the “oh so relaxing” swimming pool and spa. This time I will refrain from writing too long stories and will let the photos tell you what this hotel is about.
The entrance of the hotel is very discreet. All the incredible flowers are by Jamie Aston and a modern reception has been well integrated to the well known traditional entrance.
The elevators have been modernized, but their ambiance has been preserved as it used to be.
The design of Café Royal combines skilfully old and new features, which can be seen well in the corridors of the hotel.
In addition to the standard Portland and Mansard guest rooms, there are several exclusive suites in Café Royal. The images are from a Junior Suite facing the Regent Street, the views are alluring and there is absolutely no sound of the traffic in the room.
The bathroom amenities were by marvelous Floris, the oldest independent family perfumer in the world.
The minibar contained such items as Jean-Marc Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet redwine, Sipsmith gin and Belvedere vodka – in addition to the Nespresso coffee machine, which can be found in most modern 5 star hotels nowadays. I felt like a child with the motorized, turning TV. I did however appreciate a lot that the shower and all control buttons, such as blackout curtain, were easy to use – I hate spending first few minutes of my shower in order to figure out how the ultramodern tab works.
Even if I was extremely tempted to dine in the room, I had to get the feeling of the legendary Oscar Wilde Bar, formerly known as iconic Grill Room, where head chef Elisha Carter and his team makes real taste magic.
The breakfast is served in Ten Room, which is also very popular for lunch. Not to forget the Café and its macaroons. The images of the restaurants are poor, but you can find better ones here.
Last but not least – the pool. Bliss. Next to the pool is situated the Akasha spa.
